Tension is still building up, in Congo. Aside from the pro-journalists protest I noted in the previous post, there was a... somewhat violent protest (The second in two weeks, after this one) led by the opposition party UDPS (the best known opposition party, who is boycotting the polls), and people were injured, some severly. People died in similar protests in the East, after they were dispersed by police forces. Martyrs of democracy?... we'll see.
In the mean time, I had to report on 2 things. First of all, Radio Okapi is offering a short photo and profile of the presidential candidates[fr], that is worth noting. You will find in it that 2 of the people running for office are sisters (Poland anybody?).
The second thing is that The Salon has a new member: Adina. She is leaving for Congo soon, as an election observer, and she will hopefully be able to post her election journals here, and we will do our best to make them seen in other places.
Congo kino liwa!!
